The path continues, from Retro.hk to charity 88
The inaugural Hong Kong Retrogaming Expo debuted in Central in 2015, instantly capturing public attention. Riding the wave of the global retro gaming trend, the second Expo relocated to The Hong Kong Polytechnic University to further promote game preservation, drawing over 10,000 visitors in just one week.
Building on the Expo's unprecedented success, the organization officially registered as a non-profit group under the name "Retro.hk" several years ago to continue its conservation work. Expanding upon this mission with the core values of "Turning Waste into Treasure" and "Gaming Equality," Retro.hk officially registered as a Section 88 charitable organization in 2023 under the name "The Videogame Foundation." We are dedicated to collecting vintage consoles of all sizes, old televisions, and gaming magazines. By restoring these pieces of history, we ensure they can be played, read, and enjoyed by even more people in the future.
Turning Waste into Treasure: The Recycling Program
We operate a dedicated collection and storage center where the public can donate vintage consoles, game discs, CRT televisions, and related memorabilia (such as magazines). These donations support our non-profit environmental protection efforts.
Once processed and archived, these items serve as historical records for academic research. Furthermore, we provide refurbished equipment for the public to play free of charge, ensuring that every adult and child has the right to enjoy the world of gaming.
